The company has launched this smartphone at a price of Rs 10,990. This price gets 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. It has also launched a 6GB RAM and 64GB storage variants priced at Rs 11,990. We have reviewed its 6GB RAM variants. If this price and specifications are seen, it competes with smartphones like Galaxy M30, Realme 5s, Xiaomi Redmi 8 in the smartphone market.

Vivo launched the first smartphone U10 of its new U-Series in September. Now the company has launched vivo U20, the latest smartphone in this series. The 5,000mAh battery with 18W fast charging support included in this smartphone and the triple rear camera setup with super macro mode are its main highlights. Does Vivo U20 prove itself in the composition of all other smartphones? Let us know in this review.

Vivo U20 Design and Display

This smartphone matches its previous version U10, except for the pattern and design of the camera bump in the back of Vivo U20. We have reviewed its Blaze Blue color variants, which comes with shiny grade and color. Plastic material has been used in the back panel of the smartphone. As a budget device like the previous version, this device gives a very premium look. In addition to Blaze Blue, customers can also buy this smartphone in Racing Black color. At its back is the vertically set triple camera setup and LED flash, which are set inside a single camera bump. This camera is given an accent with the copper finish around the bump, which does not allow the phone to feel the budget device. The back has a fingerprint sensor as well as volume rockers and power/power sensors. The placement of the standby button is also correct.

The speaker grill beneath the bottom is the 3.5mm audio jack, mic, and micro USB port. On the front, the smartphone has a 6.53-inch FHD+ display with a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels. This display comes with waterdrop cutouts.

Vivo U20’s hardware and gaming performance

The company has given a better processor in U20 than Vivo U10. The smartphone is given Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 675 SoC, which comes with AI Engine. Earlier, the company has already included this chipset in its two V-Series smartphones V15 Pro and V17 Pro. In addition, this chipset also gives power to the Redmi Note 7 Pro. The company says the chipset is quite efficient due to its AI capabilities. Somewhere the company’s claim is also correct. U20 handles multi-tasking and app loading very well. This chipset in everyday use will not allow you to feel any kind of lag or slope on the smartphone. The company has given ram options up to 6GB on this smartphone.

This combination also makes this smartphone good in gaming. PUBG Mobile or Call of Duty: You won’t see any lag in it while playing Mobile. Of course, you can’t expect a flagship-grade performance from this chipset, but this chipset will definitely give you a feeling of mid-rand performance from the price of U20. The fingerprint sensor included in the U20 also plays its job perfectly. It is accurate as well as fast.

Vivo U20’s camera performance

The U20 smartphone has a triple rear camera setup with a 16-megapixel primary f/2. 1.78 camera sensor with 8-megapixel f/2. 2.2 Super wide-angle lens and 2-megapixel f/2-megapixel f/2-megapixel 2.4 Super Macro Camera Lens. In day-light or good lighting conditioning, the picture is sharp and has equal exposure and color production. Photos taken from the wide-angle camera also do not lose the detail in good lighting conditioning, but with the low light, the camera starts to disappoint you. The problem here is not of color production or exposure but of the noisy or distortion in the pictures. However, to avoid this, the company has given a dedicated night mode, which can give you some good photos in low light, but you have to keep your hand quite stable or use a tripod.

The camera focuses very fast on the subject and is also a constant. The portrait mode involved makes the background very good. Although sometimes the edge is not able to detect well, you can undoubtedly take good shots for Instagram. The company has given a 2-megapixels macro lens in this smartphone, which plays its job perfectly. Through this, you can take some good closeup shots. However, sometimes you may have to focus manually on the subject.

U20 also has 4K video recording support, but you can significantly reduce the lack of stabilization. You can also use its wide-angle lens for recording, but in this mode, the four sides of the video appear to be moving outward. In addition, the video in indoor lighting also shows a lot of noise problems.
The front camera has a 16-megapixel front camera in the U20, which is f/2. It comes with a 2.0 aperture. The camera plays its job perfectly in both day-light and low-slide conditioning. If you are fond of taking selfies, this camera will not disappoint you. It also has many built-in and toning modes. At the time of selfie, it also blurs the background and generates sharp and colorful selfies.

Software

Talk of software the Android 9-based Funtouch OS 9 will see you full of smartphone bloatware in the first boot. The good thing though is that you can un-install these unwanted apps. It has 64GB storage, of which about 12GB of the storage system is used and 54GB is available for the user. The phone also includes the face unlock feature, which is accurate and unlocks the phone quite fast. It is a dual-SIM device and I have not faced any difficulty in network connectivity. The Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0 included also work well.

Buy Vivo U20 or not?

Vivo U20 has a starting price of Rs 10,990 in India when compared to smartphone-like Galaxy M30, Realme 5s, Xiaomi Redmi 8. Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 SoC and 6GB of RAM options are much better for smartphone performance and gaming. Its design feels premium as well as its battery performance is also quite aggressive. However, in the camera department, the smartphone is left a step behind its company somewhere. If you want a smartphone that doesn’t drain the battery much even after full gaming or even after the day’s video streaming before your day ends, the Vivo U20 will be the best option for you, but if you want a smartphone with a great camera, you can make your decision to turn to other smartphones in the market.
